Firehouse 12 brings a unique combination of live performance space and professional recording to New Haven's thriving Ninth Square district, near Yale University. With 18-foot-high ceilings and solid construction dating back to 1904, the historic firehouse building was blessed with terrific inherent acoustics. Architect/acoustician John Storyk, in collaboration with Gray Organschi Architects, has developed a highly effective warped three-dimensional plywood membrane absorber for the live room ceiling, and perfect sight-lines in every direction between the two large iso booths, the 500-plus square-foot studio/performance area and the audio control rooms, based on a vintage API Legacy 48-input console.
